Cambridge First Certificate Course
Our Edinburgh-based Cambridge First Certificate Course for adults is designed to fully train you in the English language skills and exam technique you need to succeed in the challenging Cambridge FCE.
As with all Venture English group courses, there is a maximum of only 6 students per class, so you get more individual help from your teacher to pass the FCE exam!
This is an upper-intermediate (B2) level course. If you have an advanced (C1) English level, try our Cambridge Advanced Course.
Language Lab | 9.30-11.30am
During Language Lab, you will focus on developing upper-intermediate level (B2) general English, especially natural expressions, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Classes are communicative and interactive, and involve language analysis, discussion and learning activities.
Exam Technique | 11.45am-12.45pm
After the morning coffee break, you focus on developing and practising the exam technique you need to pass the Cambridge First Certificate. Your teacher will show you exactly what is required in the writing and speaking sections, and will give you plenty of opportunity to practise these and get feedback for improvement. Your teacher will also give you top tips for success in the use of English/reading and listening parts of the exam and lots of practise.
Fluency Workshop | 1.45-2.45pm
The afternoon class is dedicated to helping you improve spoken fluency, pronunciation and interactive listening. This is an opportunity to use the new language you learn in the morning classes, with the teacher give you correction when you need it. We use real-life materials, such as articles, YouTube videos and TED talks as a source of discussion. That means you will also discover new vocabulary and expressions in context, which is the easiest way to remember!
Self-study and Homework
To support your in-class learning, you’ll be set daily homework and given tips and exercises to develop language weaknesses. You can expect to do from 5-10 hours of homework per week.
Why choose Venture English?
- We keep our classes small (6 students) so that you can receive more focused support from your teacher than is possible in larger groups, while still enjoying a more affordable course than private lessons.

- Our teachers are highly qualified and experienced, as well as fascinating people with broad interests who have a lot of life experience to bring into the classroom.
- We’re perfectly situated for you to continue your learning English even after class, as Venture English is at Summerhall, Edinburgh’s most adventurous arts, events and education venue!
